Ann Demuelemeester AW2000 Burnt Suede Blazer

Ann Demuelemeester AW2000 Burnt Suede Blazer

Ann Demuelemeester’s Autumn/Winter 2000 collection boasted a familiar formula silhouette-wise, yet the use of color was out of the ordinary for the Belgian designer. Opposed to the rather expected palette of black, black, and more black, Demeulemeester donned the models in coats of ambiguous purple, flowy tops of eccentric lime green, and most notably, blazers and trucker jackets of a striking, bright orange. Worn by Kirsten Owen on the runway, this blazer is a true stunner.

The texture of this jacket is a feature that needs to be experienced in person to fully grasp its beauty and intricacy. The suede is blistered to different degrees throughout the body, giving it a textural diversity that makes it a joy to handle - the backside exemplifies this treatment. While the left side has been burnt and distressed to the point of there being strands of suede wildly hanging off, the right side is more uniform. The silhouette is slim and structured, yet the cut is still perfectly doable for men, serving as an example of the androgynous look Demeulemeester so often toyed with.

Condition: 8.5/10. Inner string detached - no effect on wearability.
