Comme des Garçons AD1991 Velvet Patchwork Shirt

It’s difficult to pinpoint how to surmise Comme Des Garcons. Launching in 1973, CDG initially caught attention for it’s bold and brash rejections of what a women ought to look like, Rei’s work was characterized by draping black clothing, often harshly distressed. However, like many one-time punks, age has tempered its fury, and CDG has developed into a cultural powerhouse, with tendrils burrowed into every aspect of fashion and design. In 2017, Rei became to first living designer to receive an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.

An effortless intersection of luxury and rebellion, contrasting the patchwork nature with a lush velvet. The luxuriousness of the garment further accented by the choice of colors — regal browns and fiery crimsons — the kind of colors that grace a coat of arms. Oversized in it’s cut, with an artfully crafted pointed collar and mother of pearl buttons.
