Launching in 1973, CDG initially caught attention for it’s bold and brash rejections of what a women ought to look like, Rei’s work was characterized by draping black clothing, often harshly distressed. However, like many one-time punks, age has tempered its fury, and CDG has developed into a cultural powerhouse, with tendrils burrowed into every aspect of fashion and design. In 2017, Rei became to first living designer to receive an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
