Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS2006 Rolling Stones Pants

It is difficult to distill the empire that is Comme Des Garçons into one cohesive summary. Launched in 1973, CDG initially caught attention for its brash rejections of what a women ought to look like. Rei Kawakubo’s work was characterized by drapey black clothing, often harshly distressed. However, like many one-time punks, age has tempered its fury, and CDG has developed into a cultural powerhouse, with tendrils burrowed into every aspect of fashion and design. In 2017, Rei became to first living designer to receive an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.

CDG’s spring 2006 runway included an extensive selection of pieces which paid tribute to the legendary British Invasion rock band, The Rolling Stones. This particular pair of pants reinterprets their lip and tongue logo in a pop-art style, (as has been done frequently with the graphic) placing it indiscriminately over a pattern of checkerboards, polka dots, and flowers, all which are staple patterns of the pop-art medium.
