Comme Des Garçons x Jamie Reid AW2008 “No Future” Shirt

Though Jaime Reid’s output was sparse, he defined the British punk aesthetic with his ransom note font, and composed numerous graphics for the Sex Pistols. To this day his work remains inextricable from the music of the era. True to his punk roots, Reid has remained a vocal figure in the art world, famously smearing Damien Hirst as a "hypocritical and greedy art bully” after Hirst attempted to sue a student for copyright infringement. He lampooned the art giant by releasing a modification of his famous “God Save the Queen” graphic, which read “God Save Damien Hirst.”

This piece stems from a fruitful collaboration between Reid and Comme Des Garçons. It top subverts the classic “No Future” rallying cry which Johnny Rotten wails in “God Save the Queen,” and reconfigures it into “Our Future” (perhaps a fitting nod to Rotten’s punctuation to the line: “No future…for you”). It additionally features a back patch designed by Reid, which appeared on numerous pieces from the collection.
