To quote Tim Blanks, “Slimane unleashed a collection that injected glam into last season's Seattle-based grunginess. Sequined jackets and jeans were the most obvious examples, but a black leather jacket decorated with leather rosettes, and a little jacket also embellished with rosettes, this time in tiny beads, suggested that early-seventies moment when Marc Bolan and Bowie would swap clothes with their wives… A black ruffled cape over a flesh-toned ruffled shirt was a reminder of times when young rockers would scour secondhand shops for something flashy—and, preferably, sexually ambiguous.”

While Hedi Slimane’s Autumn/Winter 2005 collection, “In the Morning,” proves to be one of the French designer’s flashiest works, this jacket contrasts that showing quite heavily. It’s Slimane’s riff on a classic M65 jacket, as he takes the mass-produced, boxy silhouette familiar with that of the surplus iterations, and gives it his familiar, sharp twist. The cut is fitted and narrow, as every great Hedi piece seems to be. The jacket’s composed of a heavyweight cotton, and it bares chunky zippers and leather zipper tassels. A prime example of the unrivaled quality stemming from this era of Dior Homme.
