Dries Van Noten AW2014 Backzip Sweater

Dries Van Noten AW2014 Backzip Sweater

Dries Van Noten’s work for the fall of 2014 was backdropped by his own involvement in a retrospective of his work, which was to be displayed in Paris's Musée des Arts Décoratifs. He was forced to confront the repetitions and blindspots of his storied career, and subsequently refused to construct another tonally parallel set of luxurious prints and embroidered outerwear. He colloquially titled the show “Rave and Renaissance,” and blurred both centuries and class, sending out bondage straps and acid-dyed pants hand-in-hand with pearls and fox scarves and trimmed collars.

These backzip tops were a key piece of the collection, with this iteration featured prominently on the runway. Its lightweight panels and slight sheen owe their inclusion to the former half of the season’s title, while the back is lined with a thick silver zipper, which functionally runs from cuff-to-cuff.
