Helmut Lang SS2004 Leather Bondage Rider Coat

1,800.00

SS2004 is one of Lang’s most famous seasons, constructed around themes of “lightness and structure” and “the iridescent color”, both channeled from his observations of dragonflies. It peeled back the harsh military aspects Lang had seeped previous seasons in, and substituted it with something light and sensual. Suave, slim silhouettes that remained purposeful and innovative, a sense of clothes whittled down to nothing more than their bare essentials.

This coat is Lang at his fully formed and rawest. Masterful, Italian-made carvings of the taboo and morose. Here he borrows from the classic biker silhouette, blacking out the hardware and extending the jacket’s body down to one’s calf. His archetypical bondage cuff dangle from the end of the sleeves, offering a more subtle nod to BDSM signifiers than his typical bondage riders. This piece is near impossibly illusive, and a key component to telling the story of Lang’s brand. We’re highly pleased to be able to present it.
