Helmut Lang SS2004 Silk Bondage Bomber Jacket

Helmut Lang SS2004 Silk Bondage Bomber Jacket

SS2004 is one of Lang’s most famous seasons, constructed around themes of “lightness and structure” and “the iridescent color”, both channeled from his observations of dragonflies. It peeled back the harsh military aspects Lang had seeped previous seasons in, and substituted it with something light and sensual. Suave, slim silhouettes that remained purposeful and innovative, a sense of clothes whittled down to nothing more than their bare essentials.

The signature piece of Lang’s spring 2004 output was this striking reimagining of the bondage bombers released the season before. The organza silk strips the weight of its predecessor, and takes with it the severe, militant undertones the 2003 versions so rawly evoked. In its place is something much more sensual, with an evocative clash between the delicacy of the silk, and the inherently implied force of bondage wear.

Condition: 7.5/10.  Given that the silk on this jacket is so fragile, there are a few holes here and there. Most prominently, there is a 5cm rip along the top of the back neck. These can be repaired. There are also two small patches that are difficult to notice - one on the upper right shoulder and one on the back left armpit.
