Number (N)ine SS/AW2003 Kurt Cobain Denim

“Touch Me I’m Sick,” was a mirthless double-entendre - a reference to both the 1988 Mudhoney track, and to Takahiro Miyashita’s weakened physical state, which had prevented him from undertaking the rigorous schedule required to produce two collections in a year. That year he released a single collection, in which the looks were a love letter to Seattle’s ’90s grunge scene.

Within the collection, Takahiro produced meticulous reproductions of pieces worn by Kurt Cobain, including the tragic icon’s velvet patched denim, which he often wore both on and off stage. Cobain's original pair was made by Jean Paul Gaultier, and appeared in Nirvana’s video for their now-classic single, “Heart Shaped Box.” This recreation features swatches of rich silk and velvet, and natural distressing on the knees and hem.
