Raf Simons AW2000 Patched Collegiate Sweater

1,100.00

AW2000 was something of a transitional season. It maintained the themes of past years, yet edged Raf closer to a style he’d fully embrace in “Riot Riot Riot”. Schoolboy blazers still littered the runway, though he had began to relax the cut, often shown with the sleeves too long. The sharp collars and slim knits remained, but oversized patched bombers and full length coats had begun to surface. The models’ hair was shorter and tighter than in previous seasons. These were boys who’s youthful flippancy had aged into a hardened, full-fledged rebellious streak. It’s a crucial link in the development of Raf, one that allows itself to be appreciated on its own merits, while tantalizing with the prospect of what will come next — suggesting, but not answering.

The patched collegiate knit has become an iconic piece of Raf’s early work. Featuring a slim, raglan cut and a trio of three patches he put on sweaters, bombers, and coats in AW2000. Like much of his early work, it blends effortlessly into a style he's in fact lampooning. As seasons age, their true highlights begin to stand in as placeholders for the entire work, and these patched Hydesville Castle Community pieces have come to define “Confusion”.
