Raf Simons SS1997 "Generation" Tank Top

300.00

Raf Simons’ Spring 1997 output, “Teenage Summercamp”, was his first distillation of upper-middle class youthful angst, inferred to be brought upon by generational disconnect and the pressures of societal norms. It established him as the rare creative to truly have his ear to pulse of the young generation, whose pop culture portrayals throughout the 90s were often wrought with stale and lazy tropes.

This print calls upon a single word, “Generation”, and opts to express Raf’s interpretation of the generation not through any screed but rather through the visual layout of the print — stark and manic, yet repressively contained within the spacing given to each repetition. An encapsulation of youthful energy held back by greater forces, a feeling Raf would fully unleash in the early 2000s.
