Raf Simons SS1998 "Seditionaries" Bondage Shirt

SS1998’s “Black Palms” has endured as perhaps Raf’s most iconic pre-2000 season. While he had previously explored youthful subversion within high-society, his rebels without a cause of ‘97 were dilettantes compared to the punks of ‘98. Though most directly influenced by the Sex Pistols, within the razor slim button down shirts, sheer mohairs, slashed back tops, and fishnet weaves, we can detect a more nuanced nod to the New York punks of the late-70s — Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, and the rest of those rockers trailblazing the heroin chic frontier.

A magnificently rare homage to Vivienne Westwood, the sui generis fairy godmother of punk. The design is borrowed from the “muslin shirt”, a style of top sold at her legendary King’s Road boutique, made iconic by Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols. The unique and intricate detailing mimics her’s, featuring functional hook fastenings at the shoulder, elbow, and wrist, raw hems throughout, and a double layered drop hem. As far as we can determine, this is the first of this piece commercially available on the web. A true collector’s piece.

Condition: 9/10. No significant flaws. All distressing is intentional.
