Rick Owens AW2008 Karen Black Portrait Tee

Rick Owens AW2008 Karen Black Portrait Tee

This tee hails from a series of prints Rick released in reference to the punk band "The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black" (a reference to the starring actress in the 1975 film, "Trilogy of Terror”). The iteration shown here displays their lead singer, Kembra Pfahler, a rare kindred artistic spirit of Owens, who not unlike the man himself found her bearings in the morose and hedonistic, amongst the final outposts of lawlessness within big cities and major labels. She worked with G.G. Allin, boasted that dope pushers on her block had a strain of heroin named after her, and, in an act of defiance against sexual norms, had her vagina sewn shut. These open challenges of sexual taboo, and warm embraces of the deepest recesses of culture were a natural fit within the canon of Rick’s work, who has often used his clothing and sculptures to explore similar waters.
