Saint Laurent Paris SS2014 Duckie Boots

600.00

Saint Laurent Paris’s SS2014 Season was a translation of a translation. A borrowing of the Teddy Boy and Rockabilly aesthetic borrowed by new wave glam rockers — closer in its genetics to Adam Ant, Charlie Sexton, and other 80s rockers who accentuated their slicked-back hair with eyeliner, than to the brawling, suavely dressed youths of the 50s. The predominant runway silhouette pushed Hedi’s ideals to the extreme —  jackets barely graced the hip of the waifish models, while the pants were high waisted and near skin tight.  Fabrics and prints were loud, it featured a barrage of animal prints, checkerboards, satin, and, in a historically-savvy touch, faux-leather vinyl pants in red and black. New wave rockers typically opted for the faux versions instead of their heavy counterparts.

Duckies were perhaps the most audacious boot Hedi Slimane created. The lovechild of a stirrup and a wicklepicker, they’re extremely narrow, with a 30MM heel and fastened by a buckle which tends to click slightly with each step. They strike a perfect balance of glam androgyny and powerful masculinity, the delicate threading of these two elements was the key to the look of bands like the New York Dolls, and others from the era SS14 so wonderfully played tribute to.

Condition: 7/10. Natural wear and creasing. Some heel drag and scuffing.

Size: 42
