Saint Laurent Paris AW2014 Gabardine Teddy Jacket

Saint Laurent’s AW2014 may as well have been dedicated to every East Coast boarding school drop-out (a group which can claim punk icons Richard Hell and Tom Verlaine among its membership). Apathetic models layered sweaters and button down combos beneath oversized herringbone and plaid coats, pairing their Southampton staples with razor sharp jeans and creeper brogues. Blank faces broken only by an occasional sneer conjured memories not of Kennedy’s and Bush’s, but of the trigger-happy and ever-coiffed teddy boys of 50s London.

Perhaps the quintessential jacket from Hedi’s tenure at Saint Laurent, the silhouette was repurposed from ‘60s letterman jackets, and brought onto to the runway atop the backs of Hedi’s gaunt models. Produced in near-countless different varieties, this slick gabardine iteration is among our favorite ever. Its lighter weight allows it to be worn in any season, and the smooth outer ascribes a finely tailored look to the one-time jock staple.
