Undercover AW2003 "Bin Laden/Bush" Desert Camo Vest & M-65 Set

The invitations to Undercover’s AW03 season were printed on cutout silhouettes — a mysterious medium which revealed itself to be fitting of the season, “Paper Doll”. The season was highly deconstructed, featuring overlapping fabrics, clashes of loop wheeled shirts and wool knits, patterns changing on a dime. It very much evoked visions of handmade dolls, pieced together with whatever scraps a young child can find.

Along with his “No B(O)rders” pieces, and “Free Burma” shirt, the 2003 Bin Laden/Bush designs must be regarded as Jun’s most abject political statements. He weaved the two figures into a canvas of desert camo during U.S.’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Political overtones aside, these two piece are meticulously designed. Both feature a rip stop cotton outer, which the vest embellishes with tactical detailing, while the jacket adds a fully lined fleece inner. Since both of these pieces are highly illusive, we felt it belt to allow them to be kept together and moved as a set.
