Undercover SS2003 "No Gods No Masters" T-Shirt

SS2003 “Scab” was Jun’s debut at Paris fashion week, where he established himself as both a visually gifted designer, and one with a unique point of view to express. It elevated the classic DIY punk look by focusing on tailoring in a way rarely considered by the original crafters of the aesthetic. Models stalked the runway in rebuilt clothing, with coarse stitches and hanging threads. Irregular silhouettes abounded, with tops draping loosely past their limbs, yet sticking tight to their torsos. In a full circle achievement, Jun won universal praise from the highest brow of fashion critics, for a sophisticated reconstruction of the DIY punk style he began his work doing.

True to the inspirations of Jun Takahashi’s “Scab” collection, the season’s evocative graphic tees were interspersed with elements of both punk culture and surrealism. The standout quote, “No Gods No Masters,” traces its origins to French anarchists of the 19th century, yet has been frequently appropriated by rebellious social movements, including the women’s suffrage movement in the early 20th century. It has recurrently appeared on various Undercover garments, including the iconic tee displayed here.
