Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS2000 Floral Tapestry Trousers

$450.00

It is difficult to distill the empire that is Comme Des Garçons into one cohesive summary. Launched in 1973, CDG initially caught attention for its brash rejections of what women ought to look like. Rei Kawakubo’s work was characterized by drapey black clothing, often harshly distressed. However, like many one-time punks, age has tempered its fury, and CDG has developed into a cultural powerhouse, with tendrils burrowed into every aspect of fashion and design. In 2017, Rei became to first living designer to receive an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.

For her spring 2000 collection, Rei Kawakubo sourced fabric from Gobelins Manufactory, a legendary tapestry manufacturer in Paris. She produced suits, shirts, and trousers utilizing these eccentric fabrics. As shown here, these trousers are fully composed of an intricately woven floral tapestry, and feature a slim cut and high rise.
