Raf Simons AW2002 Oversized Digicamo Turtleneck

Raf Simons AW2002 Oversized Digicamo Turtleneck

$675.00

In 2002, Raf Simons masterfully perverted idyllic Americana imagery into “Virginia Creeper".  A thematic cousin of works like “Nightmare on Elm Street”, and “In Cold Blood”, which expressed the anxieties and terror which lurk beneath the thinnest of white picket fence visages. Borrowing the season's name from a small poison flower, Raf's models stalked a forested runway in pieces that ostensibly harkened back one's youth. Summer camp crewnecks, down jackets, and letterman jackets filled the runway, though, like a small town sunset, they revealed a nightmarish underbelly through oversized cuts, bondage straps, and distressed tops. Virginia Creeper perhaps stands as Raf’s most direct exhibition a crucial aspect of youth: the dual desire to both fit in, and subvert.

Featured prominently on the runway, this knit was a crucial aesthetic component of “Virginia Creeper”. It was produced in three starkly contrasting iterations: a stretchy and ultra tight cut, a more palatably slim one, and this oversized runway version. True to the silhouettes which defined the collection, this turtleneck is intended to drape atop its wearer.
