Burberry Prorsum SS2011 Studded Weekender Bag

Christopher Bailey is widely regarded for bringing the Burberry label back to present-day prominence. Oft compared to his one-time boss, Tom Ford, who worked the same trick at Gucci. Like Ford, he found romance and vulnerability within masculine heritage wear. Bailey’s apex at the label is often seen as his spring 2011 collection, which was inspired by motorcycle wear designed in the 19th century by Thomas Burberry. The collection paired heavy biker jackets and pants with soft mesh garments — deploying sheer sweaters and safari shirts in the highlight looks. In preparation for the collection, Bailey dug through Burberry’s extensive archive, reinvigorating hundred-year old designs in the process. The ultimate result was something both reverential to the past and forward looking, a tightrope many a designer has struggled to walk.

Pointed metal studs were the defining detail of this collection, appearing on jackets, gloves, boots, and bags. This weekender-sized bag was inspired by equestrian bags of the past, and in sturdy enough to withstand daily use.
