Jean Paul Gaultier AW1998 Velvet Trucker Jacket

Jean Paul Gaultier AW1998 Velvet Trucker Jacket

$575.00

Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall 1998 collection skewed heavily sartorial. Most models wore power suits with large lapels, often bearing three or six buttons. However, the show was far from as austere as the silhouettes may have implied. Gaultier’s usual cast of models imbued the camp they were famous for into their walks, and the suits were made with glimmering fabrics, and styled with sheer and shining tops. The later looks shifted towards a more print-heavy aesthetic, indicative of his work from the earlier half of the decade, and a variety of knits were paired with fur hats. Notably, the fur was a display of Gaultier’s continued growth. He typically worked with faux fur earlier in his career, but by the late ‘90s he had launched a Fourrere sub-line, and pieces from it often found their way into his runway collections.

This jacket bears a dripping velvet print seen on numerous different pieces in different colors throughout the collection. The fabric is raised atop a heavy cotton body, and the jacket features zip-up closure, along with buttons on each side of the zipper.
