Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme AW1994 Skull Sweater.

$1,400.00

Yohji Yamamoto’s fall 1994 work was nicknamed the “Marionette” collection, as he found inspiration from the wardrobes of antique marionettes and enlarged their unique proportions to human size. Though now remembered mostly for the various morbid skull and crossbones graphics which dotted the collection, in its day the most unique aspect was the elongated which Yamamoto leaned into. Derived from the stretched out proportions mannequins assume by default of their construction, Yamamoto achieved this with such tools as sky-scraping top hats and sweaters which stretched to he thigh. In an interesting twist that seems to strain the limits of coincidence, Martin Margiela released his legendary “A Doll’s Wardrobe” the same season, which similarly adapted the proportions of doll’s clothing, suggesting the two anti-fashion maestros were likely in communication while producing their contemporaneous works.

This wool knit features an elongated cut with a textured yarn skull and crossbones on the front side.
